October 2008
Join fellow members and guests for an evening of Hors D’oeuvres
and no-host cocktails on October 22nd at 5:30pm and meet Artist Veronica ‘Ronnie’
Lyons.
Ronnie grew up in Pennsylvania.
When she was old enough to hold a crayon, she began drawing and designing. She never stopped. Throughout her life,
she often was the one asked to design posters, bulletin boards, stage props, logos, book covers, greeting cards, etc. During
college, she was hired as a graphic artist for Duquesne University.
Ronnie’s
artistic pursuit continued while earning a Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Sociology and in Special Education, and a Masters
Degree in Special Education. Later, she earned a Ph.D. in Instructional Systems. She loved her career as a teacher
and administrator. She also taught at Penn State & at ASU. Whatever she did, she added an artistic flare to
the assignment or project. She continued to design graphics for many organizations and companies. As a single
parent, she also coordinated many art projects and art opportunities for children.
In 2000, after a successful career in education, Ronnie ventured into an oil painting class, a gift from her husband.
Since then, she has studied with many nationally recognized artists at the Scottsdale Artists School: Phil Beck, John Burton,
Jean Chambers, Gil Dillinger, Susan Diehl, Joni Falk, Allen Garns, Linda Glover Gooch, Maxine Johnston, Robert Lemler, Bill
Lunquist, Peggi Kroll Roberts, Robert Tracy Schacht, Matt Smith, Henry Stinson, Gabor Svagrik, & Timothy Thies.
She has also studied abroad: oils with Roberto Venosa, Spain; Old Master’s techniques with Phil Rubinov &
Michael Fuchs, Austria; mono-print making with Linda Goodman, Italy; plein air with Gale Bennett, Giverny, France; and Russian
impressionism with John Wuderman, Republic of Georgia.
Ronnie has sold many of her creations mostly by private commission, at the Doug Alpert Gallery, State College, PA
and via a collegiate contract with Penn State University.
Always a life
long learner, Ronnie continues to mature artistically but always remaining young in thought, following Picasso’s belief:
It takes one a long time to become young.
Her present, eclectic, collection includes classical still life’s, plein aire landscapes and her youthful, contemporary abstracts.
